Free 11+ GL practice: Verbal Reasoning

Four sections of eight questions, covering hidden words, word building, letter and number codes and word relationships, so you see the whole range rather than one type repeated.

Before your child starts

  • 32 questions, 25 minutes, across four different question types of eight questions each.
  • Hidden words, word building, letter and number codes, and word relationships. A genuine taste of the range rather than one type repeated.
  • No dictionary, no notes. Rough working on paper beside them is fine.
  • Sit them somewhere quiet and leave them to it.
  • Nothing is saved unless you choose to share it. The test runs entirely in your browser.

The real West Midlands entrance test is written and provided by GL Assessment, as the partnership confirms. These English comprehension and verbal reasoning questions are written by us to that published format.

What this can and cannot tell you. None of the partnership schools release past papers, so no practice test anywhere, including this one, is the real thing. Treat the result as a diagnosis of which topics need work, never as a prediction of a score. Real marks are standardised by age on a scale the schools do not publish.

GrammarPath is an independent tutoring company and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to GL Assessment. These questions are written by us to the published test format, they are not GL Assessment papers.

This is a raw mark on a practice section, not a standardised score. The real test converts marks using an age-weighted scale the schools do not publish, so there is no honest way to turn 14 out of 20 into a number on that scale. Use the breakdown above to decide what to teach next.

Your full breakdown is ready

Every question explained, including the ones your child got right for the wrong reason, and what to work on first. It is not saved anywhere until you ask for it, so this page is the only place it exists.

Month and year only, and only so we can allow for age in future reports. We never ask for your child's name or school. See our privacy policy.
