  • All 7 Word Meanings question types, 40 questions each: Closest Meaning, Opposite Meaning, Multiple Meanings, Odd Ones Out, Word Connections, Rhyming Synonyms and Related Words.
  • 210 practice questions, untimed, marked the moment they answer, with the working shown and the reason the answer they picked is wrong.
  • A 10-question Challenge on every topic, 10 questions in 4 minutes, marked at the end with no hints on screen, the way the real test works.
  • Pitched at grammar-school level: 161 of the 280 questions are Gold, with the twists the real test uses, such as rhymes spelt differently, close groups and the opposite set as a trap.
  • A short how-to page for every topic: the method, a worked example and the traps.
  • Works on any device, and the 72-page printable PDF is included: every question, a how-to page per topic and the answers and working at the back.

How we check

We check the answers before you have to.

Most 11+ material asks you to take the answer key on trust. Ours is checked by a program that reads each question exactly as your child sees it, tries all five options, and accepts the question only if exactly one option works and it is the one in the key. It runs every time the pack is built, and one failure stops the build.

Every answer re-solvedAll 280 questions were solved again from scratch by a separate check and compared with the stated answer. All 280 agreed.
No second right answerSequences and number rules are where a sharp child finds a second answer that also works. Every question is tested against every rule of its kind, so only one option can be argued right.

FAQs

Which exam is this for?

GL Assessment 11+ verbal reasoning. These are seven of the question types GL uses, in the same five-option format. CEM-style tests mix verbal reasoning differently, so use this for the question types themselves rather than as a mock of a CEM paper.

Why is the practice untimed but the Challenge timed?

A method has to be right before it can be fast. Practice marks every answer straight away and shows the working, so a mistake gets fixed on the spot. The Challenge then hides the difficulty and runs the clock, so you see whether the method holds up under exam pressure.

Can I print it?

Yes. The 72-page PDF has every topic's how-to page, all 280 questions with space to circle answers and time the Challenge, and the answers and working at the back.

Where does this pack fit?

Verbal reasoning questions come in four groups: Maths and Sequences, Logic and Coding, Making Words and Word Meanings. This pack is Word Meanings. Each pack drills its question types one at a time.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It's a link that opens in the browser on a laptop, tablet or school Chromebook. The PDF is a normal download.

How long do I have access?

Permanently. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and the PDF is yours to keep and reprint.
