Why this pack works

  • All five Verbal Packs: Maths and Sequences, Logic and Coding, Making Words 1, Making Words 2 and Word Meanings. 27 topics, 40 questions each.
  • £79.00 for all five, against £99.95 for the five packs bought one by one.
  • 810 practice questions, untimed, marked the moment they answer, with the working shown and the reason the answer they picked is wrong.
  • A 10-question Challenge on every topic, 10 questions in 4 minutes (Explore the Facts gets 8, as there is more to read), marked at the end with no hints on screen, the way the real test works.
  • Pitched at grammar-school level: 621 of the 1080 questions are Gold, with the twists the real test uses, such as letter jumps that grow, codes that go round the alphabet, hidden compounds and rhymes spelt differently.
  • A short how-to page for every topic: the method, a worked example and the traps.
  • Works on any device, and the 296-page printable PDF is included: every question, a how-to page per topic and the answers and working at the back.

A worked solution for every question

Three real questions from the pack, with the explanation exactly as it appears in the mark scheme, one Bronze, one Silver, one Gold.

Compound WordsBronzeCompound Words

Join one word from each group to make a new word. The first group's word comes first. (1 STEER 2 TRUTH 3 CUP) (4 CAKE 5 CUTE 6 TRUST)

A3 + 5B2 + 4C3 + 6D3 + 4E1 + 4
Worked solution
1Try each word in the first group with each word in the second, first group first.
2CUP + CAKE = CUPCAKE.
3CUP is word 3 and CAKE is word 4, so the answer is 3 + 4.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A CUPCUTE is not a word.  ·  B TRUTHCAKE is not a word.  ·  C CUPTRUST is not a word.  ·  E STEERCAKE is not a word.
Closest MeaningSilverClosest Meaning

Find the word closest in meaning to the word in capitals. CHEERFUL

AHAPPYBALERTCCLUMSYDANXIOUSESAD
Worked solution
1Think of a sentence using CHEERFUL, then try each option in its place.
2HAPPY means the same as CHEERFUL ("happy").
3The closest meaning is HAPPY.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: B ALERT means "attentive", which is not what CHEERFUL means.  ·  C CLUMSY means "awkward", which is not what CHEERFUL means.  ·  D ANXIOUS means "nervous", which is not what CHEERFUL means.  ·  E SAD means the opposite of CHEERFUL, not the same.
Number SequencesGoldNumber Sequences

Find the number that completes the sequence. 8 10 14 22 38 ? 134

A54B68C70D71E76
Worked solution
1The differences are +2, +4, +8, +16: each difference is double the one before.
2The next difference is 32, so the missing number is 38 + 32 = 70.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Repeated the last difference. Each difference doubles.  ·  B Made the difference grow by adding, not doubling.  ·  D Miscounted a step. Check the number against the ones either side of the gap.  ·  E Doubled the number instead of the difference.

Practise it slowly, then prove it fast.

810 practice questions marked one at a time, then a timed Challenge on every topic. Yours permanently, no subscription.

How we check

We check the answers before you have to.

Most 11+ material asks you to take the answer key on trust. Ours is checked by a program that reads each question exactly as your child sees it, tries all five options, and accepts the question only if exactly one option works and it is the one in the key. It runs every time the pack is built, and one failure stops the build.

Every answer re-solvedAll 1080 questions were solved again from scratch by a separate check and compared with the stated answer. All 1080 agreed.
No second right answerSequences and number rules are where a sharp child finds a second answer that also works. Every question is tested against every rule of its kind, so only one option can be argued right.

  2. Sit a test. Pick a topic. Read the how-to page, work through the practice, then take the timed Challenge, in the browser or on the printed PDF.
  3. See everything. Practice is marked after every answer. The Challenge is marked at the end, with the working for every question missed.
FAQs

Which exam is this for?

GL Assessment 11+ verbal reasoning. These are all 26 GL question types, plus Word Ladders, a common 11+ letter puzzle, in the same five-option format. CEM-style tests mix verbal reasoning differently, so use this for the question types themselves rather than as a mock of a CEM paper.

Why is the practice untimed but the Challenge timed?

A method has to be right before it can be fast. Practice marks every answer straight away and shows the working, so a mistake gets fixed on the spot. The Challenge then hides the difficulty and runs the clock, so you see whether the method holds up under exam pressure.

Can I print it?

Yes. The 296-page PDF has every topic's how-to page, all 1080 questions with space to circle answers and time the Challenge, and the answers and working at the back.

What is in the bundle?

All five Verbal Packs: Maths and Sequences, Logic and Coding, Making Words 1, Making Words 2 and Word Meanings. That covers the four groups GL verbal reasoning is built from. If you already own one of the packs, note that the bundle contains it, so you would be buying those questions twice.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It's a link that opens in the browser on a laptop, tablet or school Chromebook. The PDF is a normal download.

How long do I have access?

Permanently. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and the PDF is yours to keep and reprint.
