Three questions from the packLive preview
Q1BronzeContinuing a Sequence

A library puts 8 books on a display on Monday, 14 on Tuesday and 20 on Wednesday, adding the same number more each day. How many books does it put out on Friday?

Q8SilverPosition-to-Term Rules

A sequence is built by putting each position number through the machine shown. What is the 7th term of that sequence?

Q1GoldMissing Terms

A sequence of plot numbers rises by the same amount each time. The 2nd plot is numbered 23 and the 11th is numbered 131. What number is on the 7th plot?

Why this pack works

  • One topic, taken all the way, 140 questions on Sequences alone, not a handful buried in a mixed paper.
  • Every wrong option traces to one specific, named mistake, not just marked “incorrect”.
  • Marks itself. You never hand-mark 140 questions or line up an answer key.
  • Difficulty climbs Bronze → Silver → Gold inside every test.
  • Written for the 11+ maths syllabus every board tests, not tied to one region's schools.
  • Works on any device, and the printable PDF is included at no extra cost.

Twenty questions in twenty minutes, in the GL format, marked the moment your child finishes, with a breakdown of which topics need work. No sign-up.

Is this right for your child?

Buy it if

  • Your child keeps dropping marks on Sequences specifically
  • They have met the topic in class and need it to become automatic
  • You want 140 questions on one topic, not three buried in a mixed paper

Skip it if

  • They have never been taught Sequences, this tests, it does not teach
  • You want broad coverage before the exam, a mixed Maths Pack fits better

Sample explanations

This is what every wrong answer gets

Three real questions from the pack, with the explanation exactly as it appears in the mark scheme, one Bronze, one Silver, one Gold.

Q2BronzeDescending Sequences

A water tank holds 90 litres and loses 12 litres every hour. How many litres are left in the tank after 4 hours?

A30B38C42D46E54
Worked solution
1The tank loses 12 litres an hour, so after 4 hours it has lost 4 × 12 = 48 litres.
290 − 48 = 42 litres.
3Counting down confirms it: 90, 78, 66, 54, 42.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Carried the sequence on to 5 hours.  ·  B Used a loss of 13 litres an hour.  ·  D Used a loss of 11 litres an hour.  ·  E Stopped after 3 hours.
Tip for parents

Counting down term by term and multiplying the loss both work; using both is a quick check.

Q10SilverPattern Sequences

A fence is built in sections. One section uses 7 posts, two sections use 12 posts and three sections use 17 posts. How many posts are needed for 8 sections?

A42B37C40D45E56
Worked solution
1Each extra section adds 5 posts, since 12 − 7 = 5 and 17 − 12 = 5.
2So the rule multiplies the sections by 5 and adds 2, because 1 × 5 + 2 = 7.
3For 8 sections that is 8 × 5 = 40, then 40 + 2 = 42 posts.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: B Gave 7 sections rather than 8.  ·  C Multiplied 8 by 5 and stopped, leaving out the 2.  ·  D Added 5 to the 8 sections five times over.  ·  E Multiplied 8 by 7, treating every section as the first.
Tip for parents

The first section needs an extra post to close the end, which is where the added 2 comes from.

Q2GoldFinding the Rule

A printing firm charges a setup fee plus the same amount for every copy. Four copies cost £47, nine copies cost £92 and fifteen copies cost £146. How many pounds is the setup fee?

A2B9C11D20E36
Worked solution
1From 4 copies to 9 copies is 5 copies, and the cost rises from 47 to 92, which is 45.
2So each copy costs 45 / 5 = 9 pounds.
34 copies therefore cost 4 x 9 = 36 pounds.
4The setup fee is 47 - 36 = 11 pounds.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Took off five copies' cost instead of four.  ·  B Gave the cost of one copy rather than the setup fee.  ·  D Took off three copies' cost instead of four.  ·  E Gave the cost of the four copies rather than the setup fee.
Tip for parents

The cost per copy comes from the change between two orders; the setup fee is what is left once the copies are paid for.

How we check

We check the answers before you have to.

Most 11+ material asks you to take the answer key on trust. Ours is machine-checked and the check is tied to the questions by a content hash, edit a question and the build refuses to produce the pack until it has been verified again. That is a gate in the build, not a promise on a sales page.

Every answer re-solvedAll 140 questions were solved again from scratch by a separate check and compared with the stated answer. All 140 agreed.
Every wrong option namedEach of the four wrong options traces to one specific misconception, so a wrong answer tells you which mistake was made.
Checked against the whole rangeQuestions and diagrams are compared across every pack we sell, so nothing you buy twice is the same question twice.

FAQs

Which exam is this for?

GL Assessment, FSCE and Quest. The 11+ maths syllabus is national, Sequences is on the syllabus for all of them. What differs is format. Every question here is five-option multiple choice against the clock, which mirrors GL and CEM-style papers directly. If your child sits a written-answer paper such as CSSE in Essex or an independent school's own, use these to build topic fluency and speed, then rehearse setting out working on that school's past papers.

Is this one topic only?

Yes, deliberately. All 140 questions are Sequences, spread across 8 sub-topics, so a weak area gets drilled properly rather than meeting three questions on it in a mixed paper.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It's a link that opens in the browser on a laptop, tablet or school Chromebook. The PDF is a normal download.

How long do I have access?

Permanently. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and the PDF is yours to keep and reprint.
