Q1BronzeWriting and Simplifying Ratios

A box holds 12 red counters and 18 blue counters. What is the ratio of red counters to blue counters in its simplest form?

Q8SilverUnequal Sharing

The bar is divided into equal parts. It shows how 63 marbles are shared between two friends in the ratio shown by the shaded and unshaded parts. How many marbles does the friend with the shaded parts receive?

Q1GoldSharing in a Ratio

A sum of 1,000 pounds is shared between three people in the ratio 3 : 5 : 12. How many pounds more does the person with the largest share receive than the person with the smallest?

Why this pack works

  • One topic, taken all the way, 140 questions on Ratio and Proportion alone, not a handful buried in a mixed paper.
  • Every wrong option traces to one specific, named mistake, not just marked “incorrect”.
  • Marks itself. You never hand-mark 140 questions or line up an answer key.
  • Difficulty climbs Bronze → Silver → Gold inside every test.
  • Written for the 11+ maths syllabus every board tests, not tied to one region's schools.
  • Works on any device, and the printable PDF is included at no extra cost.

Is this right for your child?

Buy it if

  • Your child keeps dropping marks on Ratio and Proportion specifically
  • They have met the topic in class and need it to become automatic
  • You want 140 questions on one topic, not three buried in a mixed paper

Skip it if

  • They have never been taught Ratio and Proportion, this tests, it does not teach
  • You want broad coverage before the exam, a mixed Maths Pack fits better

Sample explanations

This is what every wrong answer gets

Three real questions from the pack, with the explanation exactly as it appears in the mark scheme, one Bronze, one Silver, one Gold.

Q3BronzeDirect Proportion

Four identical pens cost 72 pence altogether. How many pence do seven of the same pens cost?

A144B504C126D108E112
Worked solution
1Find the cost of one pen: 72 ÷ 4 = 18 pence.
2Seven pens cost 7 × 18.
37 × 18 = 126 pence.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Doubled the price of four pens.  ·  B Multiplied the price of four pens by seven.  ·  D Gave the cost of six pens.  ·  E Added 40 pence to the cost of four pens.
Tip for parents

Working out one pen first is the step that makes every other number easy.

Q10SilverProportional Reasoning

Eight tickets to a show cost £36 altogether. All the tickets cost the same. How much money do fourteen of the tickets cost?

A£42B£72C£45D£4.50E£63
Worked solution
1Find the cost of one ticket: £36 ÷ 8 = £4.50.
2Fourteen tickets cost 14 × £4.50.
314 × £4.50 = £63.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Added £6 for each of the extra tickets.  ·  B Doubled the cost of eight tickets.  ·  C Gave the cost of ten tickets.  ·  D Gave the cost of one ticket.
Tip for parents

Fourteen is not a whole number of eights, so the cost of one ticket has to be found first.

Q4GoldScale Drawings and Maps

The grid shows a warden's patrol route from the start to the end. Each square on the grid is 150 metres across. The warden walks the whole route twice. How many kilometres does the warden walk?

A1.35B9C0.27D2.7E13.5
Worked solution
1Count the squares along the route: 3 north, then 4 east, then 2 north.
2That is 3 + 4 + 2 = 9 squares for one circuit.
3Each square is 150 metres, so one circuit is 9 × 150 = 1,350 metres.
4Two circuits are 2,700 metres, which is 2.7 kilometres.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Walked the route once instead of twice.  ·  B Gave the number of squares rather than the distance.  ·  C Divided the metres by 10,000 instead of 1,000.  ·  E Gave the answer in hundreds of metres.
Tip for parents

The route is counted square by square along the path, and only then doubled.

How we check

We check the answers before you have to.

Most 11+ material asks you to take the answer key on trust. Ours is machine-checked and the check is tied to the questions by a content hash, edit a question and the build refuses to produce the pack until it has been verified again. That is a gate in the build, not a promise on a sales page.

Every answer re-solvedAll 140 questions were solved again from scratch by a separate check and compared with the stated answer. All 140 agreed.
Every wrong option namedEach of the four wrong options traces to one specific misconception, so a wrong answer tells you which mistake was made.
Checked against the whole rangeQuestions and diagrams are compared across every pack we sell, so nothing you buy twice is the same question twice.

FAQs

Which exam is this for?

GL Assessment, FSCE and Quest. The 11+ maths syllabus is national, Ratio and Proportion is on the syllabus for all of them. What differs is format. Every question here is five-option multiple choice against the clock, which mirrors GL and CEM-style papers directly. If your child sits a written-answer paper such as CSSE in Essex or an independent school's own, use these to build topic fluency and speed, then rehearse setting out working on that school's past papers.

Is this one topic only?

Yes, deliberately. All 140 questions are Ratio and Proportion, spread across 8 sub-topics, so a weak area gets drilled properly rather than meeting three questions on it in a mixed paper.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It's a link that opens in the browser on a laptop, tablet or school Chromebook. The PDF is a normal download.

How long do I have access?

Permanently. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and the PDF is yours to keep and reprint.
