Three questions from the packLive preview
Q1BronzeLikelihood and Language

A bag holds only red counters. A counter is taken out without looking. How likely is it that the counter is red?

Q8SilverProbability as a Fraction

The diagram shows two bars divided into equal parts, with some parts shaded. Which fraction of bar A is shaded?

Q1GoldCombinations

A school play needs one of 5 narrators, one of 4 musicians and one of 3 lighting operators. In how many different ways can the three roles be filled?

Why this pack works

  • One topic, taken all the way, 140 questions on Probability and Combinations alone, not a handful buried in a mixed paper.
  • Every wrong option traces to one specific, named mistake, not just marked “incorrect”.
  • Marks itself. You never hand-mark 140 questions or line up an answer key.
  • Difficulty climbs Bronze → Silver → Gold inside every test.
  • Written for the 11+ maths syllabus every board tests, not tied to one region's schools.
  • Works on any device, and the printable PDF is included at no extra cost.

Try a free timed maths test first.

Twenty questions in twenty minutes, in the GL format, marked the moment your child finishes, with a breakdown of which topics need work. No sign-up.

Is this right for your child?

Buy it if

  • Your child keeps dropping marks on Probability and Combinations specifically
  • They have met the topic in class and need it to become automatic
  • You want 140 questions on one topic, not three buried in a mixed paper

Skip it if

  • They have never been taught Probability and Combinations, this tests, it does not teach
  • You want broad coverage before the exam, a mixed Maths Pack fits better

Sample explanations

This is what every wrong answer gets

Three real questions from the pack, with the explanation exactly as it appears in the mark scheme, one Bronze, one Silver, one Gold.

Q2BronzeSimple Probability

A bag holds 3 red counters and 5 blue counters. One counter is taken at random. What is the probability that it is red?

A3/5B5/8C3/8D1/3E1/8
Worked solution
1There are 3 + 5 = 8 counters altogether.
23 of them are red.
3So the probability of red is 3/8.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Compared the reds with the blues rather than with the whole bag.  ·  B Gave the probability of blue.  ·  D Used the number of colours as the whole.  ·  E Used one counter rather than three.
Tip for parents

The bottom of the fraction is every counter in the bag, not just the ones of the other colour.

Q9SilverExpected Frequency

A fair coin is tossed 60 times. About how many times would you expect it to land heads?

A60B20C15D45E30
Worked solution
1A fair coin lands heads half the time.
2Half of 60 is 60 / 2.
3That is 30 times.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Gave the number of tosses rather than the heads.  ·  B Took a third of the tosses rather than a half.  ·  C Took a quarter of the tosses rather than a half.  ·  D Took three quarters of the tosses.
Tip for parents

Expected frequency is the probability multiplied by the number of tries; here that is half of 60.

Q2GoldSpinners and Dice

The spinner has ten equal sections. It is spun twice. What is the probability of landing on red both times, in its simplest form?

A2/5B4/10C4/25D1/5E16/100
Worked solution
1The sections add to 4 + 4 + 1 + 1 = 10 equal parts.
2Red takes 4 of them, so one spin gives red with probability 4/10, which is 2/5.
3The two spins are separate, so multiply: 2/5 x 2/5.
42 x 2 = 4 and 5 x 5 = 25, so the probability is 4/25.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Gave the probability for one spin rather than two.  ·  B Gave one spin's probability unsimplified.  ·  D Used 2 red sections rather than 4.  ·  E Multiplied the unsimplified fractions and left the result unsimplified.
Tip for parents

Simplify the single-spin probability before multiplying, and the arithmetic stays small.

How we check

We check the answers before you have to.

Most 11+ material asks you to take the answer key on trust. Ours is machine-checked and the check is tied to the questions by a content hash, edit a question and the build refuses to produce the pack until it has been verified again. That is a gate in the build, not a promise on a sales page.

Every answer re-solvedAll 140 questions were solved again from scratch by a separate check and compared with the stated answer. All 140 agreed.
Every wrong option namedEach of the four wrong options traces to one specific misconception, so a wrong answer tells you which mistake was made.
Checked against the whole rangeQuestions and diagrams are compared across every pack we sell, so nothing you buy twice is the same question twice.

FAQs

Which exam is this for?

GL Assessment, FSCE and Quest. The 11+ maths syllabus is national, Probability and Combinations is on the syllabus for all of them. What differs is format. Every question here is five-option multiple choice against the clock, which mirrors GL and CEM-style papers directly. If your child sits a written-answer paper such as CSSE in Essex or an independent school's own, use these to build topic fluency and speed, then rehearse setting out working on that school's past papers.

Is this one topic only?

Yes, deliberately. All 140 questions are Probability and Combinations, spread across 8 sub-topics, so a weak area gets drilled properly rather than meeting three questions on it in a mixed paper.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It's a link that opens in the browser on a laptop, tablet or school Chromebook. The PDF is a normal download.

How long do I have access?

Permanently. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and the PDF is yours to keep and reprint.
