Q1BronzePlace Value

A charity counted 47,320 pounds raised across the year. What is the value of the digit 7 in that total?

Q8SilverFactors and Multiples

A sorting machine at a bottling plant works on each crate number as the diagram shows. A crate numbered 12 goes in. What number comes out?

A museum dates three exhibits MCDXCII, MDXIX and MCDLXXXV. How many years separate the earliest exhibit from the latest?

Why this pack works

  • One topic, taken all the way, 140 questions on Number Properties alone, not a handful buried in a mixed paper.
  • Every wrong option traces to one specific, named mistake, not just marked “incorrect”.
  • Marks itself. You never hand-mark 140 questions or line up an answer key.
  • Difficulty climbs Bronze → Silver → Gold inside every test.
  • Written for the 11+ maths syllabus every board tests, not tied to one region's schools.
  • Works on any device, and the printable PDF is included at no extra cost.

Try a free timed maths test first.

Twenty questions in twenty minutes, in the GL format, marked the moment your child finishes, with a breakdown of which topics need work. No sign-up.

Is this right for your child?

Buy it if

  • Your child keeps dropping marks on Number Properties specifically
  • They have met the topic in class and need it to become automatic
  • You want 140 questions on one topic, not three buried in a mixed paper

Skip it if

  • They have never been taught Number Properties, this tests, it does not teach
  • You want broad coverage before the exam, a mixed Maths Pack fits better

Sample explanations

This is what every wrong answer gets

Three real questions from the pack, with the explanation exactly as it appears in the mark scheme, one Bronze, one Silver, one Gold.

Q3BronzePrime Numbers

A teacher asks her class to name a prime number between 20 and 30. Which of these answers is correct?

A21B25C27D29E33
Worked solution
1A prime number has exactly two factors: 1 and itself.
221 = 3 × 7, 25 = 5 × 5 and 27 = 3 × 9, so each of those has more than two factors.
329 divides by nothing except 1 and 29, so 29 is the prime.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Assumed any odd number is prime; 21 is 3 × 7.  ·  B Assumed any odd number is prime; 25 is 5 × 5.  ·  C Assumed any odd number is prime; 27 is 3 × 9.  ·  E Named a number outside the range of 20 to 30.
Tip for parents

An odd number is not automatically prime; 21, 25 and 27 are all odd and all composite.

Q9SilverHighest Common Factor

A caretaker has 18 blue chairs and 24 red chairs. He arranges them in identical rows, with every row holding only one colour and no chairs left over. What is the greatest number of chairs he can put in each row?

A3B9C12D2E6
Worked solution
1Each row must divide both 18 and 24 exactly, so the row size is a common factor of the two.
2The factors of 18 are 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 18; the factors of 24 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24.
3The common factors are 1, 2, 3 and 6, and the greatest of these is 6.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Gave a common factor, but not the highest one.  ·  B Used a factor of 18 that does not divide 24.  ·  C Used a factor of 24 that does not divide 18.  ·  D Gave the smallest shared factor above 1.
Tip for parents

The question asks for the greatest row size, so it is the highest common factor and not just any shared factor.

Q3GoldLowest Common Multiple

Three coaches leave a depot together at 8 am. One returns every 24 minutes, one every 36 minutes and one every 40 minutes. At what time do all three next return to the depot together?

A8:30 amB9:00 amC10:00 amD2:00 pmE11:00 am
Worked solution
1All three return together after a number of minutes that is a multiple of 24, of 36 and of 40.
224 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3, 36 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 and 40 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 5.
3The lowest common multiple needs three 2s, two 3s and one 5, which is 8 × 9 × 5 = 360 minutes.
4360 minutes is 6 hours.
56 hours after 8 am is 2 pm.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Added only the shortest interval to the starting time.  ·  B Used 60 minutes, which is a multiple of none of the three intervals.  ·  C Used 120 minutes, which is a multiple of 24 and 40 but not of 36.  ·  E Used 180 minutes, which is a multiple of 36 but not of 24 or 40.
Tip for parents

Building the lowest common multiple out of prime factors avoids listing three long sets of multiples.

How we check

We check the answers before you have to.

Most 11+ material asks you to take the answer key on trust. Ours is machine-checked and the check is tied to the questions by a content hash, edit a question and the build refuses to produce the pack until it has been verified again. That is a gate in the build, not a promise on a sales page.

Every answer re-solvedAll 140 questions were solved again from scratch by a separate check and compared with the stated answer. All 140 agreed.
Every wrong option namedEach of the four wrong options traces to one specific misconception, so a wrong answer tells you which mistake was made.
Checked against the whole rangeQuestions and diagrams are compared across every pack we sell, so nothing you buy twice is the same question twice.

FAQs

Which exam is this for?

GL Assessment, FSCE and Quest. The 11+ maths syllabus is national, Number Properties is on the syllabus for all of them. What differs is format. Every question here is five-option multiple choice against the clock, which mirrors GL and CEM-style papers directly. If your child sits a written-answer paper such as CSSE in Essex or an independent school's own, use these to build topic fluency and speed, then rehearse setting out working on that school's past papers.

Is this one topic only?

Yes, deliberately. All 140 questions are Number Properties, spread across 8 sub-topics, so a weak area gets drilled properly rather than meeting three questions on it in a mixed paper.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It's a link that opens in the browser on a laptop, tablet or school Chromebook. The PDF is a normal download.

How long do I have access?

Permanently. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and the PDF is yours to keep and reprint.
