Q8SilverBudgeting Problems

The bar chart shows what a family spent in four weeks. How much did they spend in the four weeks altogether?

Why this pack works

  • One topic, taken all the way, 140 questions on Money and Currency alone, not a handful buried in a mixed paper.
  • Every wrong option traces to one specific, named mistake, not just marked “incorrect”.
  • Marks itself. You never hand-mark 140 questions or line up an answer key.
  • Difficulty climbs Bronze → Silver → Gold inside every test.
  • Written for the 11+ maths syllabus every board tests, not tied to one region's schools.
  • Works on any device, and the printable PDF is included at no extra cost.

Sample explanations

This is what every wrong answer gets

Three real questions from the pack, with the explanation exactly as it appears in the mark scheme, one Bronze, one Silver, one Gold.

Q2BronzeGiving Change

A child pays for a 65p drink with a £1 coin. How much change should she get?

A45pB25pC35pD40pE65p
Worked solution
1£1 is 100p.
2100p - 65p = 35p.
3So the change is 35p.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Took the drink as 55p.  ·  B Took the drink as 75p.  ·  D Subtracted from 105p.  ·  E Gave the price rather than the change.
Tip for parents

Turn the pound into 100p first, and the subtraction becomes a single step.

Q11SilverCurrency Conversion

The conversion graph changes pounds into euros. How many euros would 35 pounds be worth?

A35B42C40D45E29
Worked solution
1Read up from 35 on the pounds axis to the line.
2The line passes through 10 pounds at 12 euros, so each pound is 1.2 euros.
335 x 1.2 = 42.
4So 35 pounds is worth about 42 euros.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: A Gave the pounds unchanged.  ·  C Used a rate of about 1.14 euros to the pound.  ·  D Used a rate of about 1.29 euros to the pound.  ·  E Converted euros into pounds instead.
Tip for parents

Take the rate from a gridline you can read exactly and scale it; reading 35 straight off is harder.

Q5GoldDiscounts

A sofa costs £640. The shop, which has three branches, takes 15% off and then a further £50 off the reduced price. What does the sofa cost in the end?

A£494B£544C£590D£446E£502
Worked solution
110% of £640 is £64 and 5% is £32, so 15% is £96.
2£640 - £96 = £544.
3A further £50 comes off.
4£544 - £50 = £494. The number of branches is not needed.
Where marks are lost
Every wrong option is a specific error: B Forgot the further £50.  ·  C Took only the £50 off.  ·  D Took the £50 off first and then 15% of the rest.  ·  E Took 20% off before the £50.
Tip for parents

Take the percentage off first, then the fixed amount; the three branches are there to be ignored.

How we check

We check the answers before you have to.

Most 11+ material asks you to take the answer key on trust. Ours is machine-checked and the check is tied to the questions by a content hash, edit a question and the build refuses to produce the pack until it has been verified again. That is a gate in the build, not a promise on a sales page.

Every answer re-solvedAll 140 questions were solved again from scratch by a separate check and compared with the stated answer. All 140 agreed.
Every wrong option namedEach of the four wrong options traces to one specific misconception, so a wrong answer tells you which mistake was made.
Checked against the whole rangeQuestions and diagrams are compared across every pack we sell, so nothing you buy twice is the same question twice.

FAQs

Which exam is this for?

GL Assessment, FSCE and Quest. The 11+ maths syllabus is national, Money and Currency is on the syllabus for all of them. What differs is format. Every question here is five-option multiple choice against the clock, which mirrors GL and CEM-style papers directly. If your child sits a written-answer paper such as CSSE in Essex or an independent school's own, use these to build topic fluency and speed, then rehearse setting out working on that school's past papers.

Is this one topic only?

Yes, deliberately. All 140 questions are Money and Currency, spread across 8 sub-topics, so a weak area gets drilled properly rather than meeting three questions on it in a mixed paper.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It's a link that opens in the browser on a laptop, tablet or school Chromebook. The PDF is a normal download.

How long do I have access?

Permanently. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and the PDF is yours to keep and reprint.
